New Year’s 2021: How to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+Hotstar for free
If you are planning for a quiet way to celebrate New Year’s 1st week, there are plenty of streaming services to consider. But more importantly, if you’ve been holding out against paying for any of these, there are some ways to access the big names like Disney+ Hotstar, Netflix, Zee5 and Amazon Prime Video for free.
Here are the way to try and get some free access to Netflix, Disney+Hotstar or Amazon Prime this weekend as you start 2021.
How to get Netflix free this New Year
Netflix used to offer a one month free trial, but then that stopped. There has also been Netflix StreamFest in December, that also offered the service free for two days. Unlike other providers, most telecom companies do not offer Netflix as an alternative free of charge. However, if you sign up for a new post-paid connection and then get the RedX plan or higher, VI (formerly Vodafone-Idea) does exactly that.
The RedX plan, that begins at Rs 1099 per month and has a lock-in duration of six months, comes with free Netflix for one year. The plan provides Netflix on your TV & Tablet for one year, worth Rs 5988 per year, which is the one-year sum starting at Rs 499 for the plan.
You can get the Netflix deal by setting up a new account or an existing Netflix account once you get your Vodafone connection. The amount is credited to your Netflix account directly, and for a year you will be able to use the service for free. On Netflix, you can also opt for the more costly plans, but then this credit amount will run quicker. The free offer from Netflix can also be used by those with an existing RedX plan.
With all its postpaid plans, Jio also provides a free Netflix subscription, but this is limited to the most basic mobile-only subscription, which is the Rs 199 package. In this plan, the service is only available on your smartphone.
Customers need to download the MyJio app on their phones to activate Netflix and then log in with Jio Postpaid Plus credentials and press “Activate Now” on the Netflix banner on the homepage of the app.
After that, with an existing Netflix account or by creating a new one, they can login to Netflix and Netflix will be activated immediately.
Finally, there’s always a solution of asking your friends or family members for their Netflix password, provided they are feeling generous. Just ask them for the username and password, and get started. But note, only four screens will live simultaneously with the highest plan.
How to get Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and Zee5 for free
Though there is a 30 day free trial, Amazon Prime Video costs Rs 999 per year or Rs 129 per month. The VIP services offered by Disney+Hotstar costs Rs 399 per year, while the Premium one costs Rs 1499 per year. There is also some free content in Disney+Hotstar, but that is not ad-free and in the free plan you can not access any of the originals or even the Disney+ content. You can not watch the new episode in the free plan if you watch Hindi TV shows from Star Plus, but the older episodes can be watched free of charge without subscribing.
Bear in mind that VIP does not offer the originals of Disney+ or the English content entry. It is restricted to the content that is dubbed, which is why it costs less than the premium version. However, in their plans, some telecom players package access to each of these utilities for free. Zee5 is also offered by telecom companies free of charge in some plans. A look at some of the plans here.
As part of these plans, if you are a Jio postpaid plan customer, then the company provides access to free Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscriptions. In terms of subscription to these streaming services, the Jio postpaid plans start at Rs 399 and go up to Rs 1,499 and all have the same advantages.
Regarding the Disney+Hotstar VIP subscription, Jio’s page states that with the same mobile number, a customer needs to log in to the Disney+Hotstar app. After a successful login, all Disney + Hotstar VIP subscription benefits can be enjoyed.
Jio also states that in order to continue to get a one-year Disney + Hotstar VIP membership, the user has to be continuously on the company’s active postpaid plus plan. The annual subscription will begin on the date on which the eligible plan is purchased.
Jio is providing one year of free membership to all eligible postpaid plans for Amazon Prime. If one goes by the details on Jio’s sites, the feature is available on all postpaid plans. At no additional cost, customers will take advantage of one year of Amazon Prime membership, worth Rs 999. Customers will be auto-charged at the prevailing market price for annual Prime membership after one year, explains Jio’s page.
For Airtel postpaid users, all plans starting at Rs 499 and above come with one year of free Amazon Prime membership, which is worth Rs 999. Similar to what Jio offers, the plans also provide free access to Disney+Hotstar’s VIP subscription for one year.
Prepaid customers of Airtel can purchase a Rs 289 package that includes ZEE5 Premium subscription, unlimited calls, and 1.5 GB of data per day. It is valid for a duration of 28 days. There is also a Rs 349 prepaid package, which includes Amazon Prime membership for one month, 2 GB of data per day, unlimited calls, and 100 daily SMS for 28 days.
Airtel also has a Rs 400 data-only plan that comes for one year with free access to Disney+Hotstar VIP.
